Feb. 16 (Bloomberg) — Energy Secretary Steven Chu talks with Bloombergs Carol Massar about the decision by the US to loan .33 billion to Southern Co. and its partners today in a push to license the first new nuclear power plant in three decades. President Barack Obama announced today that Atlanta-based Southern will be the first to get federal aid under a five-year-old law aimed in part at helping add nuclear stations. Chu, speaking from Washington, also discusses potential risk to the government and the potential implications of nuclear waste. (Source: Bloomberg)
