10:58 pm November 4, 2008 CNN has just called Virginia’s 13 electoral votes for Obama. No Democratic candidate for President had won Virginia since 1964. Then, within minutes: “We can report history. Barack Obama is projected to be the next President of the United States of America.” This is the election night party held by the Virginia Democrats at Toad’s Place of Richmond. Virginia also gained a 2nd Democratic seat in the Senate with former Governor Mark Warner’s landslide victory. Virginia flipped blue! This party took place in Shockoe Slip in downtown Richmond. Be sure to check out the many videos others have posted of jubilant VCU students at this moment spontaneously streaming out into the streets, marching peacefully down Broad Street to City Hall, climbing onto signs, etc.
